Review: Aragami 2

A short while ago we previewed Aragami 2, the sequel to the 2016 indie stealth action game Aragami, seeing what had changed from the original and what we were looking forward to. However, that preview left a few burning questions, so we just had to take the opportunity to look at the final release. Aragami

Review: Metallic Child

Here’s the hidden secret about Metallic Child: It is perhaps best understood not by what it claims to be on the cover but by a series of otherwise ornate references to other games. At a glance, this game is a roguelite, and indeed that’s what it claims to be right on the cover when you

Review: Rustler

Back in March of 2021, I took a look at a neat little game. Something of a parody on the earlier Grand Theft Auto games, the game trades a modern city for a humorous interpretation of a medieval setting, while keeping a modern (and coarsely-worded) take on much of the dialogue, story, behaviors and activities.

Review: Bravely Default II [PC]

When the original Bravely Default landed on the 3DS back in 2014, it stood as direct confirmation that there was still a market for high quality, turn-based JRPGs. It sported a job-based combat system and a party reminiscent of 2010’s Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light, a game that itself took heavy inspiration from

Review: Hindsight 20/20 – Wrath of the Raakshasa

I’m always somewhat skeptical when it comes to plot-based decision making in games. Typically, you’ll be offered one of three choices in every situation: something a nice person would do, something a mean person would do, and something that falls somewhere in between the two.

Review: Dice Legacy

Dice Legacy is a strange game. This is not inherently a bad thing. I’m generally of the mind that strange but distinctive games have a decided edge in the now-crowded indie game space, and I’m inherently very fond of any game that’s trying to do something very different. And a roguelike city-builder strategy game is

Preview: Aragami 2

Sometimes it’s worth looking back at what you’re proud of and analyzing what made it work. What were the things you did or didn’t do that lead to its success? Where did you fall short, and what didn’t work? I had the chance to sit down with a preview Aragami 2, the sequel to 2016’s

Review: El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron

2011 was a year of absolutely massive games that have gone on to be considered classics. Portal 2. Skyrim. Dark Souls. The Witcher 2. Hell, one of my favorite games of all time (Deus Ex: Human Revolution) dropped during this absolutely stacked period of gaming. With hit after hit dropping, though, a number of smaller

Hardware Review: VZR Model One Headset

Good quality sound is very important to me in my media. I can’t enjoy movies or console gaming without my full surround sound speaker setup. I’m more than happy to shell out a couple hundred bucks for quality headphones for my PC. On the other hand, I wouldn’t really consider myself an “audiophile.” Sure, I’m

Review: No More Heroes III

Man, it sure has been a bit of a wait for some fresh and traditional Travis Touchdown action. Over a decade, to be precise. It hasn’t been completely devoid of his presence, what with multiple ports of the original two Wii games as well as a side entry in the form of Travis Strikes Again

Preview: Astria Ascending

There’s a certain je ne sais quoi that accompanies a JRPG that a lot of games try and fail to emulate. It feels reductive to say that these games have to come from Japan, of course, but for every game that manages to feel authentic to its JRPG aspirations despite not originating in the country
