Starting at the end of next month, Danganronpa series publisher Nippon Ichi Software America will be delisting several of the titles from the PlayStation Store.
So this is a title with a weird approach. Utawarerumono: Prelude to the Fallen is the first title in the Utawarerumono series, and also the last one to receive a localized release like this. Finding old JRPGs that never got released stateside is frequently a wild experience in a lot of ways, not the least of which being that you’ve almost certainly played games that were influenced by them.
I’ve played many games that suffer from an identity crisis, but I can still usually feel what they’re going for. It is rare that I get my hands on a game with truly baffling design, but that is what I have here with Utawarerumono: ZAN. This is a game so at odds with itself I’m not sure who it is really for outside of its existing fans. While it’s not all bad, I don’t have many good things to say.
