PAX East 2020 Hands-on: Radical Rabbit Stew

Radical Rabbit Stew is a wacky, nostalgia packed homage to old school games releasing July 16th from developer’s Pugstorm and publisher Sold Out. I was able to play the demo at PAX East 2020 on the Switch, which felt like a natural choice for this easily digestible romp of a game. The premise is simple:

PAX East 2020 Hands-on: Hardspace: Shipbreaker

How should one describe Hardspace: Shipbreaker? At its core, this is a first-person simulation. It’s just not really like any simulation we’ve seen before.  As described in its press release, the story is as follows: Welcome to LYNX, the galaxy’s leading ship-salvaging corporation! Across your career, you’ll have the privilege of paying your debt to us by

PAX East 2020 Hands-on: Project Witchstone

From Spearhead Games (Stories: The Path of Destinies and Omensight) comes a very early look at their next game, Project Witchstone, an RPG very much inspired by pen and paper games of yesteryear. This top down, turn-based RPG thrives on flexibility. The premise is well-worn: the continent that you find yourself on is rife with

Scree!: A PAX West 2019 Follow-up

Last month at PAX West 2019 in Seattle, I had the chance to sit down with Main Scenario Writer Natsuko Ishikawa and Art Team Lead Takeo Suzuki to talk about their work on Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers. My last question during the interview asked about the inspiration behind the Great Serpent of Ronka quests- which

PAX West 2019 Hands-on: BDSM: Big Drunk Satanic Massacre

Fast food corporations have taken over Hell, and Satan's son is going on a booze-fueled rampage to stop them. That's the quickest way I can sum up one of the last games I got my hands on at PAX West this year, BDSM: Big Drunk Satanic Massacre.

PAX West 2019 Hands-on: Journey to the Savage Planet

It seems to be a trend recently in games to tell serious, “deep,” or dark stories. Something to try and grip your attention, affect your emotions, or just…you know, be violent and aggressive. I’m not complaining, I’m a sucker for games with melancholic tones. If a video game can create feeling in my cold dead

PAX West 2019 Hands-on: N1RV Ann-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action

A few years ago, a little indie visual novel called VA-11 Hall-A popped on to my radar. A cyberpunk tale told through the eyes of a bartender, this first release from Venezuelan studio Sukeban Games quickly made it into my list of favorite visual novels. The game was heavily character driven, mostly focusing on the day-to-day life and issues facing the people living in the game's dystopian setting, rather than the world itself.

PAX West 2019 Hands-on: Indivisible

When I was a kid, I was really in to video games, and I used to spend a lot of time doodling out ideas for what I thought would be cool games (I was a nerd, don't judge me). One idea I remember clearly having was a cross between a JRPG and a side-scroller. The closest I've found in recent memory was the game Exist Archive, but my idea was one that had full platformer elements as well.
