Final Fantasy XIV Mobile Coming Soon From Square Enix and Lightspeed Studios

19 Nov 2024

Around the time of the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest in China back in August, it was revealed that a mobile game using the name of the critically acclaimed MMO was in the works. At the time, the game was titled Final Fantasy XIV: Crystal World and other than the fact that it was being developed by Tencent’s Lightspeed Studios (PUBG Mobile) nothing else was known about the title.

Could it be a spin-off along the lines of the Final Fantasy XI based Final Fantasy Grandmasters that was exclusive to Japan for a number of years before being shut down? Or could it be something more in line with the Nexon developed mobile version of Final Fantasy XI that was canceled before it could be released. The most important question however, was will it be released in more than one country? Today, we’re excited to help deliver the answers to those questions!

Square Enix and Lightspeed studios have announced that Final Fantasy XIV Mobile will release first in China with a global release soon after. The above trailer gives us a glimpse of what the game will look like, though refrains from showing any direct gameplay or user interface elements to show us how it actually controls.

Final Fantasy XIV Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida said that “…this new mobile game will be a sister to FFXIV, aiming to recreate the grandeur of the original’s story and combat mechanics on mobile devices.” He further added that “Non-combat features, such as Disciples of the Land and Hand, will also be faithfully implemented.”

A press release sent to Gamer Escape stated that “Final Fantasy XIV Mobile retains lifestyle content such as fishing, Triple Triad, and chocobo racing. Additionally, players can immerse themselves in the meticulously crafted visual experience that defines Eorzea on mobile. Visual elements— from the intricate weather and time-of-day systems which offer over 600 different weather patterns across various landscapes—to player character and equipment designs have been painstakingly crafted and optimized to bring the detail of the original game to life.”

Final Fantasy XIV Mobile will begin playtesting soon in China before being launched globally soon after. Those looking to pre-register can visit ffxivmobile.com for more information.
