Final Fantasy XI Celebrates 11.11 With New Interview and Player Survey- Which Mentions Console Support
Today, Square Enix released a new interview with Final Fantasy XI composers Nobuo Uematsu, Naoshi Mizuta, and Kumi Tanioka on the “We Are Vana’diel” website.
The interview, which is the first of two parts, discusses how the music team for Square Enix’s first MMO was formed, and goes into questions regarding specific songs such as the Prelude and Final Fantasy XI’s opening theme.
Most interesting of these is a question directed at Uematsu-san regarding the choice to use Esperanto in “Memoro de la Ŝtono.”
Well, the trend at the time within Square was to use English lyrics for any songs that contained vocals. I really wasn’t a fan of that trend and felt that if a game was made by Japanese people, why should it have songs sung in a language that isn’t Japanese? Therefore, I decided to use Latin for the lyrics in FFVIII’s opening movie, so that not only Japanese people, but also people from the US, the United Kingdom, France, or wherever else would not be likely to understand them either. I thought that would help even things out somewhat on a worldwide scale.

In addition to the interview, Square Enix is also conducting the FFXI Adventurers’ Survey 2024. Square Enix notes that the responses to this survey will be taken into consideration for future events and development efforts. Additionally, they’ll be sharing the responses to the survey on a special broadcast that is currently scheduled for Monday, November 25th.
We would certainly urge players past and present to fill out this survey. The most interesting question, and possible answers comes with Question 14, one made to those that are not currently playing the game.
“What would make you consider returning to Final Fantasy XI?”
- New character development elements
- Lower monthly subscription fees
- Collaborations with other titles
- Job balance adjustments
- Adjustments to existing content
- Support for game consoles
- Additional battle content
- Additional scenarios and quests
- Change in my lifestyle (more time to play games, etc.)
The last we heard, the Final Fantasy XI team has no dedicated engineers. That makes seeing options on this survey for game console support seem like an almost impossible dream. The fact that it is listed however, means it must not be completely out of the question for the company.
Make sure to fill out the survey for yourself here.
