New FFXIV Information out of China Reveals Mobile Game and Look at Next Ultimate Raid

3 Aug 2024

Yesterday, China’s 2024 Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest kicked off at the Guangzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center. Because the Chinese and Korean versions of FFXIV operate separately, and because they’ve been behind the global version in terms of content releases, the rest of the world has never had a reason to look forward to these events, other than to be jealous of the amazing decorations they’ve have. That, however, has changed with this year’s event.

China’s version is now caught up with the rest of the world and last night, FFXIV Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida took to the stage and gave attendees a first look at new content coming down the pipeline for Dawntrail. Unfortunately, because the event was in China, there didn’t seem to be any streams that were advertised officially by Square Enix. However, thanks to players on Reddit, we were able to see a few of the bigger news drops.

Yoshida shared an image from the upcoming Ultimate Raid: Futures Rewritten (Ultimate). This of course, is based on the Eden raid series from Shadowbringers. In the image shown, we can see the Fatebreaker enemy from Eden’s Promise: Anamorphosis (E11).

We also got the name for the first zone that will arrive with the Dawntrail Field Ops content, The Shades’ Triangle. This zone will be called Occult Crescent, and seems like it could be a reference to Final Fantasy V.

We also had two new images that gave us a closer look at the upcoming Cosmic Exploration content that will let players travel to other planets. The first looks like it could be on the moon, perhaps a staging area of some kind? The second, looks like something that vibes very well with the wild scenery found in Ultima Thule.

And finally, if this isn’t enough to get you excited for future content inside of Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail, we also have news that a FFXIV mobile game is on the way. Final Fantasy XIV: Crystal World was recently listed on the approved list from the National Press and Publication Administration of China.

We don’t know a lot about this game yet, but Gematsu reports that it’s being developed by Square Enix and Tencent subsidiary Lightspeed Studios (PUBG Mobile, Undawn).

Will this be a true mobile version of FFXIV? Some kind of unique Gacha-filled game? Will it be specific to the Chinese market? Unfortunately, we have no way in knowing at this time, but it does make us shed a single tear as we remember that Final Fantasy XI mobile once lived at Nexon before being cancelled after five years of development.
