New World developer Amazon Games and Embracer Group’s own developer Middle-Earth Enterprises today announced a new MMORPG set in JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings universe. Amazon is obviously already heavily invested in the IP with the tv show Rings of Power and is juggling quite a few different MMOs, both as publishers as well as developers.

Development on this new game will be lead by the team behind New World, with Embracer’s Middle-Earth Enterprises serving as additional man-power. The new Lord of the Rings MMO will run on an improved and modified Azoth engine and the developers plan to ensure that the new game isn’t just a New World clone but fitting to the world and lore of Middle-Earth.

No release date has been announced yet, nor a proper name for the open-world MMO adventure set in a persistent world in Middle-Earth. The game will feature stories both from The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings and will be released globally on both PC and consoles. Which consoles those will be is unknown, as is whether or not the game will feature cross-platform save or cross-platform play.

We will of course keep you up-to-date once new information on the game gets released!
