It’s time to jump back into Pandaemonium! Abyssos: The Fifth Circle is the first encounter of the second 8-man, normal raid content released with Patch 6.2 of Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker. It’s available at level 90 after finishing the Asphodelos: The Fourth Circle quest Who Wards the Warders and unlocked by the quest Masks of the Father. It can be completed via the duty finder with a minimum ilvl of 585 and rewards Unsung tokens of Abyssos for each gear type, which can be turned in to Djole at (x:10.3, y:9.7) in Meghaduta, Radz-at-Han. Mylenie at (x:8.4, y:27.7) in Aporia, Labyrinthos will also exchange Unsung tokens of Abyssos for gear.

For the sake of your fellow players, please remember that this is new content (at the time of publication). A little friendly explanation can go a long way. Similarly, don’t be afraid to take advice. You may learn something you didn’t know.

Proto Carbuncle

Phase 1

  • Searing Ray – Get behind! Be careful, this AoE fills up the front half of Carbuncle’s hit box as well.
  • Ruby Glow – This does unavoidable, arena-wide damage, as well as putting up a configuration of ruby walls. This time a single wall cuts diagonally across the floor.
  • Searing Ray – With the wall up, Searing Ray reflects back on the party if you stand behind Carbuncle this time. Move to the opposite side of the wall from Carby.
  • Crunch – A tank buster.
  • Topaz Stones – Topaz Stones (go figure) drop to the arena floor and place circular AoEs. This instance has 4 stones.
  • Ruby Glow – The ruby walls split the arena into quadrants.
  • Topaz Stones – Two stones drop this time. Avoid the quadrants with stone.
  • Sonic Howl – Unavoidable, arena-wide damage.
  • Searing Ray
  • Crunch
  • Sonic Howl
  • Acidic Slaver – This does very minor damage and puts all players in the Down for the Count condition where you can move or function at all!

Phase 2

  • Ruby Glow – Quadrants.
  • Topaz Stones – There are three stones this time so move to the single safe quadrant.
  • Toxic Crunch – A tank buster that applies a poison debuff that cannot be esuna’d.
  • Venom Squall* – This will place a small, circular AoE under the feet of 4 random players. You’ll have time to move out of it once the indicator appears, so stack up to give yourselves room to move. Next, another circular AoE will travel with all players, so spread out around the arena in the space you’ve conveniently given yourselves until that AoE resolves. Finally, a stack marker will appear on one of the healers, so move back together. Together, apart, together.
  • Sonic Howl
  • Topaz Stones – Now that we’ve entered the poison zone, 3 of the 4 stones will be coated in poison that spreads from the stones’ origin point into large circular AoEs. Move into the quadrant with with unaffected stone, while avoiding its much smaller AoE.
  • Toxic Crunch – This happens before the previous Topaz Stones resolves.
  • Jumpy Bitey – Firstly, let me say that this does not have a cast bar and is not really called Jumpy Bitey, that’s… just want happens.
    • The indicator for this is the appearance of a set of red, glowing teeth gnashing mid-air, followed by 4 more blue indicators, (there’s a 5th blue indicator under the red teeth). The teeth will move to each of the blue indicators in turn, letting you know Carbuncle’s planned course. The boss will then jump to each indicator in order, creating large, circular AoEs at the blue points as it goes.
    • To deal with this, observe the teeth’s point of origin and the 8th of the floor that it’s in. This will be marked on the floor by chalky, white lines. Stay about an 8th sliver away from the teeth’s origin, wait for Carby to jump to the first point, the to the second, and move into that first point yourself.
    • Getting hit by Carbuncle’s jump will do non-lethal damage, but will freeze you in place. Once Carby is done with its 5 jumps, it will jump back to any players that were stunned and eat them.
      • It seems that if the tank with highest each is stunned, Carbuncle will not it them.
  • Spit – If any of your party members were eaten, they’ll be spit back up as small, circular AoEs, and take very high damage.
  • Ruby Glow – Quadrants.
  • Topaz Cluster – Topaz stones will drop in a series and fill all 4 quadrants. Observe the first stone to drop and move into that quadrant after is explodes.
  • Searing Ray
  • Ruby Glow – Diagonal split.
  • Topaz Stones – Two stones will drop, 1 on either side of the ruby wall. One will will be poison coated and the other will be normal. Avoid the poison and stay on the opposite side from the normal stone, then watch for:
  • Searing Ray – Remember, with the walls up, Searing Ray will only do damage inside the section of ruby wall it’s in. If you need to, after the normal Topaz Stone explodes, move to the opposite side of the wall from Carby. Sometimes the normal Topaz and Carby will be on the same side and the switch will be unnecessary.
  • Toxic Crunch
  • Ruby Glow – Quadrants.
  • Topaz Stones – Three stones will drop, 2 clean, and 1 poison. Move to the empty quadrant.
  • *Very like repeats from Venom Squall until defeat.

Congratulations, you’ve completed Abyssos: The Fifth Circle!
