Hogwarts Legacy Reveals New Information and a Holiday 2022 Release at special State Of Play

17 Mar 2022

A special State of Play on March 17th showcased Hogwarts Legacy — the new Harry Potter roleplaying game published by Warner Bros. games. Nearly 15 minutes of cutscenes and gameplay were shown at the State of Play, followed by a video from the developers talking about the game, its inspirations, and some of the challenges they had to face.

The demo was filled with new information regarding the RPG. The game will be set in the late 1800s, over a century before the events of the books and still several decades before the Fantastic Beasts movies, and players will start their adventure by creating a brand-new character who will be joining one of the four Hogwarts houses as a fifth year student. The players background is still a mystery, but we do know is that the protaganist will have the ability to wield and control ancient magic and they will be presented with missions to uncover the dangers of the world, face dark wizards and bloodthirsty goblins, and save the wizarding world from doom and destruction.

Throughout the game, the players will be able to learn new spells and craft new potions and even upgrade or buy new gear. The Room of Requirement will serve as a pseudo base of operations where they can go about their studies uninterrupted.

But they don’t have to face the world alone. Several companion friends will aid the character as well as one of the house elves in the employ of the school. Three students — one each of the houses Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin — were shown during the presentation with hints of more in the full game. These companions may teach the player new spells and will eventually share their own story, giving the player even more to do in Hogwarts Legacy.

Despite its title, the game will take place beyond the grounds of the wizarding school, including in well-known locales as Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley as well as the Forbidden Forest and wilderness of Scotland. Players will need to train hard and improve their skills to survive in these harsh conditions.

Hogwarts Legacy is set to release this holiday season 2022 on PS4/PS5, XBox Seris X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC. The full State of Play presentation can be found here. You can find out more about the game or sign up for its newlsetter here.
