Ever since the addition of the Return to Ivalice raid series introduced during the Stormblood expansion, Final Fantasy XIV has gone on to add even more story involving the region and it’s main bad guy Noah van Gabranth with the recent Save the Queen series.

The most recent update to FFXIV saw the inclusion of Zadnor, the last of two battlefield zones where players teamed up with the Bozjan Resistance to combat the forces of Gabranth’s IVth Legion.

These Save the Queen areas offered something new to Final Fantasy XIV: field records. These records reward players with a good amount of lore about specific characters that are encountered on the Bozjan Southern Front and Zadnor battlefields. With this final installment for Shadowbringers however, many players raised a mighty eyebrow at the record for Noah van Gabranth, which you can read on our wiki here.

Both the Return to Ivalice raid series, as well as the Save the Queen story were created in collaboration with Yasumi Matsuno, who worked on Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy XII, and Vagrant Story. Earlier today on Twitter, Matsuno replied to a tweet regarding this latest story arc:

Now, it could certainly be that Matsuno is only referring to Save the Queen specifically being over. However, “see you in another game” implies that Matsuno could be finished with Final Fantasy XIV. Could it be that the collaborative aspect of these stories is simply ceasing and the team will be moving forward without him? Or is FFXIV truly finished with the Ivalice and Gabrath story?

Update: Matsuno replied to more tweets over the course of the day, confirming that yes, he is done collaborating with FFXIV on Ivalice related content.
