Four years after NieR: Automata‘s launch and two years after its Director Yoko Taro claimed in Famitsu that there was “one last secret” yet to be discovered, dataminer and modder Lance McDonald has found it after “hundreds of hours” of reverse-engineering the game’s engine.
The “secret” is a cheat code that skips directly to the last ending of the game immediately after destroying the first boss in the prologue. Video of the cheat has been posted on Twitter and went viral, with Yoko Taro and the official NieR account congratulating him for unearthing it. (Major spoilers below)
McDonald has also made a YouTube video (below) explaining how he found the cheat, how the cheat works, and how to input the code on the PlayStation 4 version of the game.
NieR: Automata is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. A remaster of its prequel, NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139…, will be released on April 23rd.
