For a while there, it seemed fuzzy on whether or not we would see the Phantom Thieves of Hearts grace our screens in the West with the Dynasty Warriors-style game Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers. Thanks to a leaked trailer dropped on YouTube, we now know that this game will be coming to the West as Persona 5 Strikers.
Apparently published by Atlus accidentally, the unlisted video was noticed by Twitter personality “Wario64”. It was pulled soon after, but has been mirrored by multiple YouTube users and rehosted by Gematsu.
The trailer reveals that Persona 5 Strikers will see release on Switch, PS4, and Steam on February 23, 2021. Given that the Japanese version of the game originally released on those former two consoles, the western version launching on there is not at all surprising. However, seeing this game come to PC falls in line with SEGA/Atlus’ desire to put more of their games on the platform. I’m hoping that a Steam release of this game’s prequel makes an appearance as a result.
Set six months after the events of Persona 5/Royal, the team is looking for a little R&R. However, that’s short lived as they are once again thrust into donning their Metaverse roles after discovering a new universe teeming with Shadows. Since we’re dealing with Dynasty Warriors style gameplay, expect to see features and gameplay similar to that franchise and its Hyrule Warriors counterpart.
