Letter from the Producer LIVE LIX Summary

Earlier today, Square Enix hosted a new Letter from the Producer LIVE for Final Fantasy XIV which gave us another look at the upcoming Patch 5.3 Reflections in Crystal which is set to go live on August 11.

In addition to announcing that Final Fantasy XIV now has 20 million registered accounts, the team has plans to expand the limits of the game’s free trial. Going forward, the Final Fantasy XIV free trial will allow players to go up to level 60, play into the game’s first expansion, Heavensward, and reach content from Patch 3.56, as well as have access to Dark Knight, Astrologian, Machinist and the Au Ra race.

With that, let’s delve into all of the exciting new content coming in next month’s patch!

Patch 5.3

  • New Main Scenario Quests
    • In accordance with changes to main scenario quests in A Realm Reborn, players must complete the Crystal Tower quest series, and the quest “My Little Chocobo.”

  • Resistance Weapon Quest Updates
    • First step in upgrading weapons
    • Includes a new large-scale instance: The Bozjan Southern Front
    • Band together with up to 72 players and assist the Bozjan Resistance in their mission to rout the IVth Imperial Legion.
    • After gaining access to the instance, players can accept a quest to begin collecting items to augment their Resistance weapons.
    • The required items can be found both in and outside of the Bozjan southern front.
    • Rules and Requirements
      • A Disciple of War or Magic at level 71 or above is required to enter. Players are free to change jobs and form parties once inside the instance.
      • Players will gain experience when using jobs below level 80, offering players another option for leveling.
      • Upon entering, all players will be synced to 80, and all gear will be item level synced to 430.
      • Mounts can be used immediately after entering. However, players will not be able to fly.
  • Objectives in the Bozjan Southern Front
    • Do battle with the IVth Imperial Legon to raise your mettle.
    • With sufficient mettle, raise your Resistance rank to help the front line push forward.
    • Storm Castrum Lacus Litore!
    • Players can increase their mettle by joining special encounters in the southern front including Skirmishes and Critical Engagements. *Mettle cannot be gained from killing enemies outside of these encounters.
    • Skirmishes
      • Battles initiated randomly in the field, similar to FATEs.
      • There are no limits to the number of players that can participate, rewarding mettle commensurate to contributions to battle.
    • Critical Engagements
      • Battles initiated after meeting special conditions.
      • Only a limited number of players can participate, with encounters ranging from 24 to 48-person battles.If there are more requests for deployment than are permitted for an engagement, participants will be selected at random.
      • However, it is possible to gain priority in participant selection.Contribute to triggering the critical engagement.
      • Use of special items obtained in the Bozjan southern front.
      • Designed to be intense battles that take place in the field, comparable to dungeon or raid bosses.
      • Awards greater mettle and rewards for completion.
    • Starting a Critical Engagement
      • Engagement Triggered- Efforts to drive back the IVth Imperial Legion will eventually trigger a critical engagement and players will be notified regardless of where they are on the southern front.
      • Request Deployment- Once triggered, players will have a limited time to request deployment.
      • Prepare- When the period for requesting deployment ends, players will be given the option to be transported to the battlefield. Next comes a brief preparation phase, giving players time to quickly form parties and discuss strategy.
      • Enter Battle
  • Lost Actions
    • Special actions that can only be used in the Bozjan southern front.
    • They offer various beneficial effects, healing, and can even revive players in battle.
    • Lost actions are created from forgotten fragments obtained in the field.
    • Each crystal used to create these actions has a given weight. Players can only carry a certain combined weight, so you must choose wisely.
  • Crafter and Gatherer Updates
    • Trial Synthesis
      • Upon reaching level 15, players can practice crafting items without the necessary materials.
    • Reverse Lookup Function
      • Search for recipes via the materials in your inventory. Includes recipes you’ve yet to unlock.
      • Specify Item Quantity in the Raw Materials List
      • Set the number of items you wish to craft to calculate the total amount of materials you need.
    • Quick Desynthesis
      • Automatically desynthesize stackable items.
  • Ishgardian Restoration Update
    • Third phase of the restoration begins with Patch 5.31.
    • New gathering items added to the Diadem.
    • Skybuilder Rankings reopen.
      • New items will count towards your seasonal score.
      • Top ranked crafters and gatherers will receive achievements and titles.
  • Skybuilder Ranking Achievements and Titles
    • 1st to 12th Place: Phase III Divine Ascension / Saint Ascendant
    • 1st to 100th Place: Phase III Minor Miracle / Beatus(Beata) Ascendant
  • Miscellaneous Updates
    • A part of players will be able to join another party via the party finder.
    • The option to specify one player per job will be added to the party finder.
    • Players will be able to use the World Visit system while in a cross-world party.
    • New chapters will be added to New Game +.
    • New token exchange vendors will be added to major cities.
    • A Fashion Accessories menu option will be added, which includes parasols.
    • A new sticker function will be added to group pose.
  • Upcoming Seasonal Events
    • August 12-26: Moonfire Faire
    • August 19 until Patch 5.4 release: Yo-Kai Watch: Gather One, Gather All
      • This new Yo-Kai event will feature weapons for Gunbreaker, Dancer, Red Mage and Samurai as well as a new flying mount based on Jibanyan
    • August 27-September 10: The Rising
    • Late October to Late November: Make it Rain Campaign

Fan Fest Update

After the cancellation of the North American Fan Fest in November, Square Enix has decided to also cancel the Japan event scheduled for December. While the Europe event has not been cancelled yet, they say they are continuing to monitor the status of the COVID-19 pandemic and the event currently scheduled for February is still in consideration.

Additionally, Naoki Yoshida says that they are looking into new dates, locations, and methods to host events for North America and Europe.

New Merchandise

At the end of the broadcast we got a look at the previously announged Y’shtola Bring Arts figurine that went up for pre-order last month, as well as a first look at two new items!

Final Fantasy XIV Meister Quality Figure Omega

Currently available for pre-order, this new meister figure is sure to go fast, even at it’s price point of $229.99. It’s scheduled to release in January 2021.

Pulse: Final Fantasy XIV Remix Album

A new album featuring fourteen remixes of Final Fantasy XIV tracks will release on September 30. It is also now available for pre-order.
