Today, in a brand new Letter from the Producer, LXIII, Final Fantasy XIV Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida has announced that plans for the North American Fan Festival, originally scheduled for November 6 and 7 in San Diego, California, has been cancelled do to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
In the letter, Yoshida-san states that they have not given up hope on an event in North America and are already looking at possible dates and locations for the first half of 2021. The possibility of a digital event is also being looked into. Preparations for the Japan Fan Fest (December) and Europe (February) are still underway at this time.
Additionally, after the shift to work from home, it’s mentioned that the team is at around 85%-90% of its pre-pandemic capability. Patch 5.3 was originally scheduled for June 16, however now it will be delayed “by more than a month at the very least”.
