Earlier today, Square Enix streamed episode 50 of Freshly Picked Vana’diel for Final Fantasy XI.

During their presentation, it was revealed that the development team is working on a new scenario for the game!

Back in May of last year, we reported on an interview that Producer Akihiko Matsui and Director Yoji Fujito had with Famitsu where they stated that for the 20th anniversary of FFXI they wanted to do something “big”. The community was immediately filled with speculation as to what the team could be working on. Now it seems, we have a better idea of what’s to come in 2022.

The last major story update for the game was for Rhapsodies of Vana’diel in November of 2015. At the time, it was going to be the last story told for Final Fantasy XI.

We should hopefully be receiving an official, English digest for the stream in the next week or so. Hopefully we can get a little more information about the future of Final Fantasy XI when that releases.

Update: During episode 11 of Final Fantasy XI Digest, work on a new story was discussed briefly towards the end of the video which we’ve transcribed below:

The Siren quest was added in February and was popular. We’re currently preparing another story that’ll be just as good, maybe even better, right?

Producer Akihiko Matsui

Yes that’s right. We’re currently working on the plot with our staff members. We’re hoping to provide a positive update soon, so we ask you to wait just a bit.
