Today, Microsoft held XO2019 in London. During the presentation, Shinji Hashimoto, the Brand Manager for Final Fantasy took to the stage to announce that the following games would be coming to Xbox Game Pass (on both console and PC) starting next year in 2020.

  • Final Fantasy VII
  • Final Fantasy VIII Remastered
  • Final Fantasy IX
  • Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster
  • Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age
  • Final Fantasy XIII
  • Final Fantasy XIII-2
  • Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII
  • Final Fantasy XV

Of course, there are two games missing out of the sequence, The MMOs Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XIV. While there’s no reason to believe that FFXI would see a re-release on modern day consoles, fans of FFXIV have been asking about an Xbox One version of Square Enix’s popular MMO for years and its something we’ve reported on more than once.

The Verge has reported that during the XO2019 event today, Microsoft’s Phil Spencer said this while talking to members of the press:

I wanted you to know, rest assured that we will be bringing that game to Xbox…We have a great relationship with Yoshida-san and we’re working through what it means to bring [to Xbox] a cross-platform MMO that they’ve run for years.”

Previously, we’ve heard from Final Fantasy XIV Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida when it comes to questions of Final Fantasy XIV appearing on Microsoft’s console, often with “crossplay” being the main issue that keeps the game off the platform. However, it seems like things are finally looking up for those that have been waiting to see the game appear on Xbox.
