Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers Hands-On with Astrologian

A couple of weeks ago we had the chance to sit down with an early build of Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers at the media tour. During our time with the upcoming expansion, we had a chance to check out all of the Job changes.
You can find our master post about the media tour, and a list of links to each job here.
This article is based on play of an in-development build of FINAL FANTASY XIV: Shadowbringers, and content in the final version is subject to change.
Healer Role Actions
Role Actions in Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers will no longer be selectable. Once players obtain the level of the Role Action, it will be automatically unlocked. Depending on the Role, players will have a different number of actions available to them.
Astrologian will have the following Role Actions.
Astrologian
Astrlogian is one of my favorite Jobs just due to the visuals and design of the card buffs. I’m sure by now you’ve seen them use their new ability that basically turns them into an exhibit at a planetarium. Do you need to know more? Ok, fine I guess that is my job.
That amazing effect is the visual component of the new Neutral Sect. As it says on the tin, Neutral Sect is a new 2 minute cooldown that allows you to be in both Nocturnal and Diurnal Sect at once, which gives your Aspected Helios and Aspected Benefic both effects. Another great new 3 minute cooldown called Divination. This works in conjunction with a new feature on the Astrologian Job Gauge that shows the last three cards you played. If all three of them were different and you use Divination, it will buff every party member within 15 yalms with 6% more damage. It is such a great fit with the rest of the theme of the Job. It also will probably drive your favorite Astrologian crazy. Win, win.
Astrologian cards will be a big topic I am sure. Gone are the days of Dragoons clicking to remove their Arrow buff in order to keep their rotation from spiraling out of control. Each card now has the same effect on damage. If you use the right card on the right DPS, they will receive a 6% damage buff, if not, 3%. I’m not going to go through which card goes to which person but it is up there in the tooltips.
Lastly Astrologian’s direct healing, like all healers has been buffed. My favorite change there is the addition of the Charge mechanic to Essential Dignity. I just love charged abilities anyway, as they give you a nice decision of blowing all of the charges in a pinch or constantly keeping one in the bank and using the other on cooldown.
Astrologian is not really a Job that I play, and I know the cards will be a point of contention for some, but I think it is one of the most thematically consistent and useful Jobs in the game.
