Announced at last year’s E3, developer Rebellion is now ready to come to market this August with Strange Brigade – a cooperative third-person shooter with puzzle and survival elements. It’s hard to stand out in this crowded field (think Uncharted or Tomb Raider or maybe Horizon Zero Dawn), but Strange Brigade makes a good run at it.
Set in the 1930s, Strange Brigade draws heavily on the old pulp adventures or movie serials from that time frame – or at least the now current tropes associated with them. The best way to experience this is probably from their 2018 E3 trailer.
And in case there was any doubt, that narrator in the trailer is part of the game as well.
The game can be played as a solo player, as a 2-person co-op, or as a 4-person co-op, with the number of enemies being adjusted accordingly. The game is chock full of puzzles and traps. Kill your enemies and collect their souls to unleash your special power or spend your treasure on (random) “prototype” weapons from mysterious chests, and the enemies have no chance.
Strange Brigade will feel very comfortable to anyone familiar with the genre and stood up to its competitors as far as graphics, controls, gameplay, puzzles, etc., but feels especially well positioned to deliver a truly fun gaming experience.
Strange Brigade releases on August 28, 2018 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One & PC.
