FFXIV Dad of Light Actor Ren Osugi Has Died

Actor Ren Osugi has passed away from sudden heart failure.

Those that play Final Fantasy XIV will know Osugi-san as the Dad, from Dad of Light. A Japanese blog that was developed into a series on Netflix and follows the story of a son that tries to get closer to his father by playing Final Fantasy XIV with him, without his father knowing that the character helping him in-game is his son.

Dad of Light Director Kiyoshi Yamamoto logged in the Indy Jones character earlier today so that players could pay their respects.

As of this writing, Indy Jones is gone. A small gathering of players however, still stand at the famous meeting spot from the show to pay their respects to the Dad of Light.

  1. I signed up with Netflix just so I could watch this. I laughed and cried and coming from a gaming family, I could certainly relate. I am so upset to hear of Osugi-san’s passing. I had hoped of a second season of the show, but am very grateful to Director Yamamoto, Square Enix and the “Dad of Light” to have had the experience. Perhaps Yoshi-p can add that title to the as a tribute.

My thoughts are with Osugi-san’s family.
