Earlier this year, a port of the arcade version of the Project Diva rhythm games was released digitally for PS4 in Japan. Containing 224 songs for just about the equivalent of $100, I thought that price was a steal (less than 50 cents a song!). Also, considering that I believed licensing that many songs for an international release would be a logistics nightmare, I went ahead and purchased the Japanese release, never expecting to see it in the west.

…I may have jumped the gun a bit there.

Today, Sega announced that Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Future Tone is indeed heading westward on January 10th, 2017. The release will be in the same style as the Japanese original: PS4, digital only, with the songs spread across two downloadable packs.

For fans who decided to hold out and see if the game would jump across the Pacific, it looks like your waiting is going to pay off: the game will be much cheaper here! In the US store, each of the two song packs will be priced at $29.99, with both available as a discounted bundle at $53.99. The European releases are expected to be similarly priced within their currencies.

As a fan of the series, and having played it since its Japanese launch, you can expect to see a full review of this title soon, although we’ll wait to see if we can give the localized release a try first!
