The leadup to E3 is well underway, with a number of developers and publishers already releasing news about their upcoming projects. A number of interesting and promising announcements were made late yesterday and this morning, and I didn’t want to flood our front page with a bunch of tiny articles just saying “this is coming, get excited!” So we’ve decided to condense a few of the notable ones into a single, easy to read article!

Without further ado, here’s some of the release announcements made today:

~ World of Final Fantasy ~
Publisher: Square Enix
Release Date: Oct 25th (NA), Oct 28th (EU)
Systems: PS4, Vita

This announcement was made late on June 6th, and we’re looking at an October 25th release date here in America. This release is an ensemble-cast game featuring a pair of twin original characters, along with classic monsters, locations, and characters from the Final Fantasy franchise. The highlight here, to my eyes, is the clash between a super-cute chibi style presentation mixed with a serious story.

This announcement came alongside a trailer, which you can view below.

P5_PS4_SteelBook_Glamshot_FINAL

~ Persona 5 ~
Publisher: Atlus
Release Date: Feb 14th, 2017 (NA)
Systems: PS4, PS3

Western fans of the Persona franchise have been champing at the bit for release info for this highly-anticipated entry. Earlier this morning, they got the info: early 2017. Also of note is that the PS4 release will offer two special editions: a steelbook release for preorders, and a full collector’s edition with the steelbook, an art book, soundtrack, a plush doll, and a school tote.

Atlus PR rep John Hardin also mentioned on Twitter that the western release will, more than likely, only offer an English dub, rather than dual audio.

Fate_Extella- The Umbral Star - 04

~ Fate Extella: The Umbral Star ~
Publisher: Xseed
Release Date: Winter 2016
Systems: PS4, Vita

The Fate series has a rather strong following here in the west, despite nearly none of the games having received official English releases. Fate Extella will be one of the rare English releases, directly following up on the series’ last western foray: Fate/Extra for the PSP, released back in 2011.

This entry features a number of characters from previous installments in the Fate series in an action-style game. No specific release date has been announced, but it is expected this year.

Akiba's Beat - Logo

~ Akiba’s Beat ~
Publisher: Xseed
Release Date: Winter 2016
Systems: PS4, Vita

At first I though this was the followup to Akiba’s Trip: Undead and Undressed, the stripping-vampires-in-modern-Japan game we reviewed some time back. From the looks of it, though, it seems to be a completely different kind of game that just happens to be getting localized by Xseed and set in Akihabara. Little was announced about this game aside from it’s projected release span, but it looks like this game will be more of a traditional-style JRPG.

This is definitely not an exhaustive list, but rather some of the notable announcements made today. We’ll be keeping up with announcements throughout this week so we can let you know what to get excited about at next week’s E3 convention!
