Square Enix has announced today that Final Fantasy XI will no longer run on PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360 as of March 31 at 6:00 AM PST.

For those that are still playing on the consoles- firstly, good for you. You’re one of the few, and with as long as the game has been running, that’s quite impressive. Secondly, and more importantly, service contracts are going to remain in effect after the March 31st  date. So if you (still) don’t have a PC able to run the game, you’ll want to make sure to check on that.

Square Enix is also providing a link for those wishing to download the Windows version of Final Fantasy XI, which console players can play on using the same credentials as they were on their consoles.

This comes after Final Fantasy XI received its last large story based update in November of last year. The game is still receiving smaller updates moving forward.

And for those wondering: No, this does not mark thet end of PS2 limitations.
