Today, December 6th, Square Enix announced that it is planning to re-release their most popular title on the Play Station 4 in Spring 2015.
This, like all re-releases is being met with mixed feelings and the game isn’t even out yet. Fans of the game have been clamoring and begging for an HD remake of the Lifestream laden land, but all people have been left with are rehashes of the same game across multiple systems- 2009 on the PlayStation Network, in 2012 on PC Digital Download through Square Enix itself, and most recently in 2013 on Steam. Hell, in 2014, the game was released for Android and iPhone devices through the Japan-only streaming service “Dive In”.
Yes, Final Fantasy VII is a great game, and yes, it makes sense for a company to continuously promote their best selling games, but at this point it feels like Square Enix is acting like a pageant mom that keeps pushing their disinterested child out in front of people for applause.
