Final Fantasy XV Japanese Trailer for the PS4 Reveals Gameplay, Setting and Characters

Square Enix has released a new trailer in Japan through the Playstation Japan YouTube channel featuring their latest title: Final Fantasy XV. Showcasing the setting, characters, and some fairly revealing gameplay on the PlayStation 4, even for those of us who don’t speak Japanese can get a pretty good sense of what’s to come.

However, if you’re one of those out there who care more about the story and narration, I’ll do my best to summarize here. Final Fantasy XV takes place in a world largely related to the world in Final Fantasy XIII, which is openly apparent with the mix of swords and technology featured in XIII – it all smells distinctly familiar.

From what we can see in the trailer, the FFXV team is apparently going for an edgier more realistic approach – with all its Final Fantasy-esque elements, it looks to be like some gritty action movie – I’m actually a fan of the new approach. The battle system will be reminiscent of Kingdom Hearts with a faster pace and more realistic tactics according to developers, although that remains to be seen until someone gets their hands on it. Anyway, if you’re interested, check out the trailer below!

No word on a release date yet, although there are rumors floating about that we’ll hear about a release date at this year’s E3. Either way, it’ll be out in Japan a few months before we get the game on this side of the Pacific.
