Anyone kid in the late 80’s and early 90’s that played video games (and really, what kid didn’t?) will remember spending countless hours watching cartoons related to those games. The Super Mario Bros. Super Show was no exception.
Today we discovered via the Montreal Gazette, that actor Danny Wells (real name Jack Westelman) who played Luigi on the show, passed away last month at the age of 72 in Toronto, Ont. The news is especially saddening considering that 2013 has been the “year of Luigi”, which marks the 30th anniversary of the characters debut in Mario Bros.
In addition to his role as Luigi, Wells did a number of voices for cartoons and video games over the years including Batman: The Animated Series and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.
