The Lore Train: Naming Conventions And The Roegadyn Dictionary

Deep within the bowels of the localization lore forums lie the shiniest of gems. They are the elements that make up the the world of Hydaelyn. They are lore.

Today we have some great news for all you lore lovers out there. Square Enix has opened up a new lore section on the FINAL FANTASY XIV official forums!

But that’s not all! In addition to this new forum section, several posts have been made which illustrate the naming conventions that are used when naming characters in Hydaelyn. In addition to that, a Roegadyn dictionary has been added to aid adventurers in the process of naming their Roegadyn characters, or to perhaps decode existing characters.

For example:

Merl (sea) + wyb (woman)
Bloe (blue) + fhis (fish) + wyn (daughter)

In other words, “Sea Wife, daughter of Blue Fish”

You can check it all out here.

Will you be using these naming conventions to roleplay? Or perhaps to secretly have a silly name? Let us know what you come up with in the comments below!
