FFXIV Developers’ Blog: NSFW!?

As the old saying goes, all work and no play makes Fernehalwes a dull boy. On the other hand, all play and no work makes Fernehalwes an unemployed boy, despised (and most likely hunted) by hordes of FINAL FANTASY XIV fans patiently waiting for Beta Test content to be localized. And therein lies the dilemma–how to have fun while desperately trying to remain afloat in this sea of guildleve objective text.

I know! I can sneak over to the design team’s booths and snap never-before-seen pics of scantily clad primals and post them to the Developers’ Blog! Score one for lax security!

  1. Maybe we did get a little ahead of ourselves with that whole Siren theory… good times, though – and Shiva’s lookin’ great in basic form. I’m surprised she doesn’t have a bluer complexion, but perhaps that’s later detail work.

    Wish we had more of this outgoingness back in FFXI’s peak – seeing all the concept art and development steps is like one giant, excitement-boosting trailer. I hope it continues through the future content patches and expansions.

  2. Sick! Actually I was surprised that she didn’t have a blue complexion at first and then I thought about it. She doesn’t really need it to be an ice queen. This actually gives who a more wicked look in my opinion.

    1. I’m guessing that ones animations and effects are in place, she’ll have a blue aura of sorts.

  3. I hope this isn’t the final color and is just the basic model and they will add in the ice looking color later. Just a bit concerned because the concept art for blm af was the brown hat and blue coat like most of the past blm but ingame is blueish hat and black coat.

I think the concept art looks awesome with the pale skin and her dark blue clothes and light bluish/purplish wispy floating things on the side with the hard spiky looking hair on top, but the other pictures I don’t like at all, the colors look way too soft and washed out and her hair doesn’t even look like an ice crown like it does in the concept… hopefully they are just getting started and still working on her cause she is my favorite summon of all time and I want her to look like the shiz that she iz… lol

  5. What part of WIP do you not understand guys?
    The final model will have the colours of the concept work… Unless you have stared at a monitor with digital art on it for 8 hours straight I guess you don’t understand how having all the same colours/hues can strain and make you very blind to errors.

    The different colours are there not only for ergonomics but also to help the artist/s see the different sections and make sure everything is correct before the final colours and textures go into place.
