Yesterday, Square Enix held an event to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Final Fantasy at the ACT Theatre right next to the convention center housing PAX 2012. Attendees could pick up an amazing 25th Anniversary poster featuring artwork by Yoshitaka Amano, as well as enter to win a variety of plushies via raffles and carnival games.
The event also played host to presentations of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and the future of The Lightning Saga for Final Fantasy XIII. You can catch our video of the FFXIV presentation here.

The event itself was organized into a few different sections, each one designed around the time of the games release. For example, the first six entries in the series were all set up in an old late 80’s/early 90’s living room format, complete with old TVs! What was even more interesting was some titles were playable in their original japanese format. So for anyone that’s never played the original Final Fantasy III, they had a chance to get their hands on it last night. FFII was also playable right next to it on an original Japanese Famicom. There were three sections set up where fans could take a seat, grab a controller and play their favorite Final Fantasy titles.
There was also a fourth section simply titled “The Future” which played host to the Agni’s Pilosophy Luminous tech demo as well as the newest CG trailers for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Later in the night, Lightning Returns Final Fantasy XIII was announced and players could also watch a presentation to gain more insight about that title.
