With the release of the official Seekers of Adoulin website, players took note of the absence of a certain video game console listed at the bottom of the page. The expansion was listed for the Xbox 360 and the PC. But wait, isn’t Final Fantasy XI also a PS2 game?
Matt “Bayohne” Hilton has taken to the official forums to let players know what the deal is.
I’d like to take a moment to clarify which platform Seekers of Adoulin will be available on for those that have been asking. We will continue to support North American FINAL FANTASY XI players on the PlayStation 2, Xbox 360 and PC (Windows) platforms. However, FINAL FANTASY XI: Seekers of Adoulin will only be available on the Xbox 360 and Windows platforms in North America when it is released in 2013.
It’s no secret that the PlayStation 2 isn’t the super amazing console that it once was. Since you know… it’s just a tad outdated in 2012. However it’s interesting that Square Enix chose to avoid an NA/EU launch all together while still having the game’s fifth expansion release on the console in Japan. Couldn’t Square Enix have released the expansion digitally like they’ve done for the previous bits of content over the past couple of years? Or perhaps they’re beginning to phase out the PS2- starting in regions where it’s the least used.
Or this is Square Enix’s way of doing everyone a favor sand saying “The PS2 version sucks, play it on something else.” And if not, we’ll say it: Play this game on a PC.
