This fall, Activision Blizzard will launch Call of Duty Elite, a monthly subscription based service that’s like “if sports and social networking had a baby and then gave that baby a flamethrower”.
The service will provide special content such as map packs that won’t be available with the game discs or as purchasable DLC at other stores. Players will also be able to look at past performances and check out data for various game modes, weapons and maps. Players can compete in leagues and operations to “win actual stuff”. The service will be compatible with Black Ops, Modern Warfare 3 and other future Call of Duty titles.

No word on pricing just yet, but Activision executives say they expect the cost to be less than similar online-entertainment services.
