Shown during the last Dev Panel of VanaFest 2012 was the new User Interface that Square Enix has said they were working on.
The UI features moveable windows, and the ability to have multiple windows open at one time. It will take some time for them to complete the new interface, but Producer Hiromichi Tanaka said he hopes that they can launch the new UI alongside the Seekers of Adoulin expansion.
Just announced at VanaFest 2012 is the 5th expansion pack for FINAL FANTASY XI, Seekers of Adoulin. Not much is known about this expansion at the moment, however the trailer shown at the event had a brand new map illustrated by Yoshitaka Amano as well as the mention of new jobs!

The sneaky and stealthy goblins were able to infiltrate the FINAL FANTASY XI in-game item vaults and pilfer a ton of items right from under our noses… It turns out that it was all for a good cause because they are creating a variety of Golden Gobbiebags packed to the brim with goodies for some lucky adventurers to take home.
We have prepared a special survey based on the events and announcements of VanaFest 2012 to be posted after the event. By filling it out and answering the “Gobbie” question correctly you will be entered into a competition where you could win one of many Golden Gobbiebags, each exploding with a variety of rare in-game items!
The event will begin on Monday, June 25, 2012, but go check out all the amazing items you could win by heading to the event page here!
By this time next week we’ll all be geeking out over the latest news from VanaFest 2012. But what can we do until then? Why not chat it up and see what things people are most excited to see at the event? What kind of expectations do you have for the Dev Panels? Do you think Matt and Devin will get sick from eating too much Galka Sausage? Will we hear more news about FFXI on the PlayStation Vita? Will there truly be a new expansion for Final Fantasy XI after all these years?
There are two ways to participate in our VanaFest 2012 Predicitons:
- By posting in the thread on our forums here
- By using the #FFXIPrediction tag on Twitter
A few months ago, an update for the Final Fantasy XI Test Server went live which included a new folder for data to be stored. Typically a new folder is added to this directory to accommodate files for a new expansion or add-on. More recently, that folder has been populated by several files. Those files are new zones.
In the images provided by Clarence of Wild Dragon Chase, we can see two brand new cities, a maze type area (dungeon crawling?), two new jungle zones and a few others. For a game that hasn’t seen a large influx of brand new areas in years, these finders are sure to please any FFXI fan. Chances are good that we’ll see and hear more about these news zones and what they’re attached to at VanaFest 2012.
What are your thoughts? Add-on? Downloadable expansion? Post in the forums and let us know what you think!

I have a feeling that when I trade this item to the Runic Gate it’s not going to take me to a place I am familiar with…
It seems that there will be an announcement at VanaFest related to Nyzul Isle Assault. But what could it be? Head over the the official forums and join the discussion!
More VanaFest 2012 news comes in today with the reveal of a 500 yen capsule machine with special metal tags showing off artwork that has been used for Final Fantasy XI. The tags alone would be appealing for any collector, however, Square Enix has sweetened the deal by including a game code with each tag which could be one of… many really, really awesome things.
Black Belt items, Various HQ Voidwatch drops, Chocobo Beret, Nomad Moogle Wand and Mog Bonanza Coupons (Empyrean, Mythic, and Relic Weapons, Empyrean Armor and Empyrean Seals).
These tags will only be available at VanaFest 2012. So for the rest of the world, keep your fingers crossed and hope that there’s a way for other territories to obtain these and hope its a little easier than having to win an art contest.
