FINAL FANTASY 25th Anniversary

Are you a fan of FINAL FANTASY? …OK so the chances of that are probably pretty good.

The PlayStation Blog has announced that for two weeks (starting with tomorrow’s update) on the PlayStation Network, FINAL FANTASY games will be discounted at 50% off.

The best part about all this? All of these titles (with the exception of FINAL FANTASY V) are also playable on the PlayStation Vita. That means that you could take all of these RPG classics around with you wherever you go without the need of having to haul around a power source and a Play Station One with one of those little LCD screens you could attach onto it. Ah, convenience!

The games that will be discounted are listed after the jump.

Recently we had the pleasure of working with several other sites in the FINAL FANTASY community to put together a little something for the 25th anniversary of the franchise.

Other people have also been celebrating the anniversary in different ways. One user going by the alias BuddyIris213 has created posters covering all fourteen entries in the main series in addition to Tactics.

These stylized posters can be purchased from their store on Society6 here.

Which ones are your favorite?

Happy 25th Birthday FINAL FANTASY!

FINAL FANTASY 25th ANNIVERSARY

Today marks the 25th anniversary of FINAL FANTASY!

FINAL FANTASY for the Nintendo Famicom in Japan launched on December 18th, 1987. Since then, the series has seen fourteen main installments with sequels and spinoffs aplenty across several different platforms and mediums including anime and a motion picture!

The year has seen a few special events, two of which we had the pleasure of attending: The 25th anniversary event at PAX and the 25th anniversary concert in Chicago.

Gamer Escape wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for two certain entries in the series alongside the grand amount of support we’ve received from SQUARE ENIX over the years.

So we say happy birthday FINAL FANTASY! And may the next 25 years be filled with all new memories.

A more detailed version of the Tetsuya Nomura interview has revealed itself, and you can read it (untranslated) over here. Summarized English version here.

Most of the already well known bases are covered, but reportedly the largest revelation here is that they are looking into a serious localized version, if not a plain out downloadable (DLC) version of the game.

While it appears that the game is being delayed, the Famitsu interview reveals that characters can be swapped at save points, and like most games in the Final Fantasy series, expect to see a lot of familiar faces (and monsters!)

For those not in the loop, the game is boasting the presence of 14 lead characters to choose from, and extensive online play over PSN. While rumors claim that the game may be shipping on two UMD’s, the fact that it is also being considered for DLC and overseas release makes it look like we be seeing it live on the other side of the world after all.

Saner has quite the post detailing the game available over at our forums!
