I recently had the chance to work with the Mane6 team to bring together this – what turned out to be – Particularly amazing interview. Mane6 are currently developing the My Little Pony-based fighting game Fighting Is Magic, which has caused quite a stir not only in it’s own fandom, but also with the fighting community as a whole.

Updates on the game can be seen at Mane6. As of posting this interview, Applejack’s VA has been found, and a huge Game Update has been posted on Mane6‘s official site.

Persona 4 The Ultimate In Mayonaka Arena is soon to be released in Japanese arcades, with an Xbox 360 / Playstation 3 release pending for 2012. The game is being developed by the Blazblue team, so chances are it won’t suck – Question is, is there a market for another anime fighter? Between this and Skullgirls, one has to wonder if there’s room to squeeze more poverty fighters in there with Melty Blood and Arcana Heart.

Then again, Arc System Works will likely push this game hard. Persona has a huge following, and this game could easily gain significant recognition. At least if it doesn’t end up going the way of Battle Fantasia.

First trailer for Continuum Shift Extend, the next update for the Blazblue series. New characters are promised, along with an initial PS Vita launch.  It is expected that the new version update will be offered on consoles as a free DLC, while the new characters will be optional purchases, much like Continuum Shift II. Arc System Works has expressed interest in keeping Continuum Shift it’s own platform until Blazblue 3, ignoring the Capcom trend of releasing a new disc for each version update.

New features known thus far:

  • Online play now supports 2 on 2, 3 on 3 and 2 on 4 battles.
  • Updated Abyss mode
  • Improved key recording in training mode
  • The high difficulty 10 stage Unlimited Mars mode from the arcade version
  • Four new scenarios for story mode
  • Inclusion of a refined version of BlazBlue Calamity Trigger’s story mode, with all new voice acting
  • The PS3 and Vita versions will be able to share save data for their story modes.

The rumor is that there will be 3 new characters again, keeping in tradition of Continuum Shift II. So far we know about Relius Clover. Who do you guys think will make the cut? Kokonoe, Phantom, Jubei, Linhua? Let us know in the forums!

God Killer

A tad late, but here are your Evolution 2011 tournament results! Unfortunately, I did not get to attend this year due to family issues popping up in the past few months, but I’d be damned if I didn’t try my hardest. I did, however, get to catch parts of the stream – I can’t even express how surprising and impressive the level of skill was this year, and how many big names were utterly closed out of the brackets. Seeing new names revitalizes the fighting scene, something I had previously thought would never happen. The Blazblue show up appeared to be minimal, but the players that did show up didn’t disappoint. And by that I mean Spark whose (lower-tier) Hakumen absolutely dominated the finals. Holy defense and fundamentals.

Oh, right, and Daigo didn’t even make the top 3 thanks to US player Latif. Latif may have only placed second overall, but if you were watching the stream, I think it’s easy to say that he was the true champion of this year’s Evo. Keep on crowd surfing, son!

Forget catgirls, it looks like pre-orders are now up for Makoto Nanaya, the Squirrelgirl character from Arc System Works’ HD 2d fighter Blazblue. Arcsys, also known for the Guilty Gear franchise, have this release slated for October through Good Smile Company, and sculptor ‘FREEing’. Hopefully your pockets are deep, since the pre-order price comes in at 6,520 JPY.

The 1/7th scale PVC is available for pre-order at all the usual suspects:

As a cautionary, I should warn that the figure is semi-NSFW. But if you’re a fan of the women of Final Fantasy, then there’s nothing shocking or surprising here about the character’s costume.

Also, if you have missed it, Amiami still has stock of the Rachel Alucard figure that was released earlier this year:
