FINAL FANTASY XI at Gamer Escape

Today we’ve begun phase one of what will be a large scale overhaul of our FINAL FANTASY XI wiki.

Since Gamer Escape launched we’ve been hard at work not only on the things you see now such as the blog and the forums, but also on the wiki. Using our past experiences, we’ve been able to build a series of wikis like no other. For those of you who have edited our FINAL FANTASY XIV wiki, you’re sure to notice that our item template not only allows for easy edits, but also allows items to be automatically added to other pages based on information on the page.

Today, we’ve begun the first step of implementing this easier, more convenient system on our FFXI wiki. We’ll first be converting all current item pages into a brand new template and from there we will be making tweaks to that template as we carry on with these changes.

Unfortunately, not all of these changes can be done with the click of a button. We can do the heavy lifting, but we need some help from you via small edits- which you can find more info about here.

We encourage you to leave feedback about these changes on in our FFXI Wiki Forum.

As some of you may have noticed, we changed/upgraded our commenting system here on the blog to utilize the Disqus commenting system.  There were a few reasons for this, but the main reason is that we wanted a uniform system across the platforms, and we are pleased to announce today that we have (just) now enabled Disqus on our wikis.  You should be able to see the comment section at the bottom of any article and talk page.

What does this mean?  This means that if you go to, say, the Frisky Sabots article, you could leave a quick comment about how often you have noticed the Flee Effect proc’d.  Or you can leave a comment about how an items is particularly good for a certain weaponskill.  Comments are good for subjective facts about these items.  OK, I know we don’t need to tell you all how to use comments – but just keep in mind that enabling these on a wiki does not mean that comments are a substitute for edits to the wiki.  If information is missing, it should be added to the article so that it is easily found and part of the article itself.  While leaving information in a comment is better than not leaving the information at all, a wiki survives on the community adding information in a manner that can be edited by the next user.

We hope you like – and find use for – this feature.  It should allow for a very easy way to leave some quick thoughts for the next person who comes along looking for advice and suggestions.  Leave us a comment below and let us know your thoughts. ;)

[Completed]: Gamer Escape Maintenance

Gamer Escape Banner

So recall, back on October 29, we posted about some fairly major maintenance we here at Gamer Escape were about to undertake.  This was not really just some ordinary maintenance.  It was closer to pressing the delete button and rebuilding the site from scratch.  We had everything backed up.  We had some cell phone numbers to call in case of emergencies.  We had… our fingers crossed.  We knew what we wanted to end up with.  Something cleaner and more streamlined than we had before.  Something easier to maintain than we had before.  Something with a smaller, faster footprint than we had before.  So we pressed the delete key and went to work.
