A WIDER WORLD
The presentation began with a new, expanded version of the world map. The continent of Othard has been revealed, and the Warriors of Light will be traveling beyond Garlean-controlled Ilsabard. Ala Mhigo will not be the only city the Eorzean Alliance seeks to liberate from the grasp of the Empire; Doma requires aid as well, and the Warriors of Light will have to travel back and forth between these cities.
NEW JOB: SAMURAI
- Role: DPS (Melee)
- Weapon: Katana (Each will have a
- Base Class: None
- Starting Level: 50 (Tentative)
- THERE IS NO THIRD JOB.
Samurai will be a close-range melee that specializes in putting out big massive damage. It is a pure, solo DPS job that learns traditional Far Eastern swordplay techniques from the land of Hingashi, such as Iai. The art of “Sen” and its three forces Setsu (Snow), Getsu (Moon), and Ka (Flower) will be changed together. The katana will store energy to be released in special attacks available once the gauge is full.
Quests will begin in the Eorzean areas, so players who want to play Samurai before getting into the main scenario can do so.
Please do not be worried about difficulty matching parties due to both jobs introduced in STORMBLOOD being DPS. Data in 3.0 showed that the people playing the new tanks and healers were the same people who previously played tanks and healers. With the new changes to the battle system, the team is confident that party matching will not be too bad.
NEW CITY: KUGANE
Hingashi is a Far Eastern-themed land that has appeared in the franchise’s past. Now you will be able to visit a city in that land.
- A port town on the southern tip island chain of Hingashi.
- Can’t tell you why, but there is a strict isolationist policy.
- The only port in Hingashi open to foreign trade vessels. Violent acts are strictly prohibited within the town’s walls. (Not everyone obeys this rule.)
The Ruby Sea
Expansive, sea-like area rife with pirate activity. Connected to Dravania and looks like something out of onigashi (Japanese fairy tales).
This is where the city of Doma will be found. It is currently controlled by the Garlean Empire, so expect many confrontations here.
The Azim Steppe
Home to the many Au Ra tribes and the first expansive, plains-type area in FINAL FANTASY XIV.
NEW BEAST TRIBE: THE KOJIN
- Commonly found on and near the Ruby Sea
- Skilled traders who welcome dealings with other races
- Most comfortable in the water, have settlements under the sea (that you will visit)
- Believe that unique gods (Kami) reside in all things.
- Collect and horde rare items that house powerful Kami.
NEW PRIMAL: LORD OF THE REVEL – SUSANO
A Kami that stands above all others and primal to the Kojin. This is the second all-original summoned beast created specifically or FINAL FANTASY XIV (after Ravana).
A video was shown that displayed the scenery for a ship graveyard, but, of course, many new dungeons are on the way.
FOURTH RESIDENTIAL AREA: SHIROGANE
A Far-Eastern housing area in Hingashi. Fans from all around the world have been sending in feedback asking for more eastern furnishings, which will look great in this matching residential area. Plots will not be available immediately, so please experience the new jobs and storyline before worrying about this.
Also, the team is aware that many Free Companies already have estates, so when the time is right to introduce this new housing ward, they will be introducing the moving feature, as well, allowing an easy transfer from one property to another.
All estates will now have double the number of furnishing slots they currently have. If you still have a 32-bit system may run not have all furnishings display. The team is working tirelessly on this, but please consider updating to a 64-bit system.
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM NOBUO UEMATSU
NEW THEME: REVOLUTIONS, featuring vocalist SUSAN CALLOWAY
The more Distant Worlds tours, the bigger the concerts grow, the greater the fan response, the more they realize through such positive feedback of songs like Answers and Dragonsong, Final Fantasy XIV is truly reaching a lot of fans, even ones that don’t necessarily play MMOs.
Dragonsong was more of a ballad, so Uematsu-san wanted to do something with a bit more raw power this time around. Rather than feeling like its coming from a benevolent god, it will sound more from the human perspective. Susan Calloway, through Answers and Dragosong, has become the voice of Final Fantasy XIV and there was no desire to change it just yet; he thinks she will be able to capture the human spirit just as well as the sentiments of Hydaelyn.
In a surprise move, they showed off a short clip of the song itself.
